Job Purpose

The Junior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and supporting the Finance Manager in day-to-day financial operations. The successful candidate will also be enrolled in a YES program aimed at developing their skillset as a professional.

Key Responsibilities

Transaction Processing

  • Capture daily financial transactions (invoices, payments, receipts) in the accounting system.
    Maintain accurate records of all financial documents.

Bank and Ledger Reconciliations

  • Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts regularly.
    Identify and resolve any discrepancies promptly.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Monitor and maintain the accounts payable and receivable ledgers.
    Process supplier invoices, verify documentation, and prepare payment schedules.
  • Follow up on outstanding customer invoices and process receipts.

Month-End and Year-End Processes

  • Assist the Finance Manager with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.

Payroll Assistance

  • Capture and verify payroll data (timesheets, leave forms, etc.).
    Assist in ensuring payroll statutory deductions are accurate and compliant.
     

Financial Reporting

  • Assist in preparing monthly financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Assist with Annual Financial Statements checklists and/or compilation.
    Provide regular updates and financial data to the Finance Manager as needed.

Compliance and Administration

  • Ensure adherence to relevant financial regulations and internal policies.
  • Ensure compliance with CIPC and file required returns.
  • Maintain an organized filing system for financial and governance documents.
  • Assist with VAT, PAYE, and other statutory returns.

Ad Hoc Duties

  • Provide general administrative support to the Finance team.
  • Undertake any additional tasks or projects assigned by the Finance Manager.

 

Requirements

 

  • Matric/Grade 12 with Accounting and/or Mathematics.
  • A relevant Bookkeeping or Accounting qualification or currently studying towards one.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or finance role is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Pastel, QuickBooks, or similar) would be beneficial.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel).
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Close attention to detail and organizational ability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
