Description

The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), is inviting 20 unemployed graduates to join a programme that prepares young professionals for careers in South Africa's Just Energy Transition.

The programme is aimed at young people who have completed a relevant technical qualification in the following fields:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronics
  • Automotive Engineering
  • Electromechanical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Renewable Energy
  • or another related technical qualification with electrical or mechanical content.

The programme will consist of 2 phases, namely:

  1. Training Phase: To be completed through uYilo over the first month of the programme.
  2. Work-integrated Learning Phase: To be placed as interns within Chamber Member companies over 4 - 6 months.

The completion of this programme aims to develop junior technicians, technologists, and technical support personnel within the Electric Vehicle and Battery Management value chain.

NB! The training phase will be conducted in Summerstrand over 2 days, and successfully selected applicants will be responsible for their own transport to and from the training over those 2 days. 

Requirements

  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Must be aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Must have completed an NQF level 5 qualification or above in one of the following:
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Electronic Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Mechatronics
    • Automotive Engineering
    • Electromechanical Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Renewable Energy
    • or another related technical qualification with electrical or mechanical content.
  • Must be currently unemployed and available to complete this programme over 4 - 6 months.
  • Must be able to provide an academic transcript and qualification certificate

Ideal Candidate Competencies:

1. Technical Aptitude

  • Understand basic electrical and mechanical principles
  • Interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals
  • Grasp Electric Vehicle architecture, including motors, controllers, converters, and charging systems
  • Learn battery chemistry, battery pack structure, BMS principles, and battery safety protocols
  • Perform basic testing, inspection, and troubleshooting under supervision
  • Use technical equipment responsibly and accurately

2. Digital and Analytical Skills

  • Basic computer literacy
  • Ability to use MS Office or Google Workspace
  • Ability to capture data, complete reports, and maintain records
  • Problem-solving ability and willingness to learn new technologies
  • Numerical reasoning and technical comprehension
