Job Purpose
The Junior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and supporting the Finance Manager in day-to-day financial operations. The successful candidate will also be enrolled in a YES program aimed at developing their skillset as a professional.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Processing
- Capture daily financial transactions (invoices, payments, receipts) in the accounting system.
Maintain accurate records of all financial documents.
Bank and Ledger Reconciliations
- Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts regularly.
Identify and resolve any discrepancies promptly.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Monitor and maintain the accounts payable and receivable ledgers.
Process supplier invoices, verify documentation, and prepare payment schedules.
- Follow up on outstanding customer invoices and process receipts.
Month-End and Year-End Processes
- Assist the Finance Manager with month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
Payroll Assistance
- Capture and verify payroll data (timesheets, leave forms, etc.).
Assist in ensuring payroll statutory deductions are accurate and compliant.
Financial Reporting
- Assist in preparing monthly financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Assist with Annual Financial Statements checklists and/or compilation.
Provide regular updates and financial data to the Finance Manager as needed.
Compliance and Administration
- Ensure adherence to relevant financial regulations and internal policies.
- Ensure compliance with CIPC and file required returns.
- Maintain an organized filing system for financial and governance documents.
- Assist with VAT, PAYE, and other statutory returns.
Ad Hoc Duties
- Provide general administrative support to the Finance team.
- Undertake any additional tasks or projects assigned by the Finance Manager.
